Judges for the competition are journalism, new media and design experts from around the world. Fifteen to 20 professionals conduct monthly judging throughout the year and serve approximately two years in that capacity, entering their comments online. Nine judges from the group involved in monthly judging then meet at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in late summer to choose the annual winners from the pool of monthly winners. Only monthly winners compete in the annual competition.
The panel of judges comes from newspapers, magazines, universities and private consulting firms. They are passionate and articulate about all levels of interface design, interactivity and use of multimedia. Not only do they create great work themselves throughout the year, but they also agree that their exposure to all the SND.ies entries makes them even better at their craft.
Three of this year’s judges speak about how their experiences as a judge may affect their work back at the office.
