The Blog sends its best regards and heartfelt congratulations to Christine McNeal, SND’s immediate past president and, until today, the leader of visual journalism at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, who has decided to embark on a new career.
“Our industry is changing and now seems the time to answer a different call,” Christine wrote to colleagues today, announcing she has resigned her deputy managing editor position in Wisconsin.
What will Christine, an all-around great person and terrific leader, do next? Christine will enter seminary, “meaning I’ll be a minister by the time I’m 50,” she writes. “I’m likely to take an emphasis in environmental justice or social justice.”
Christine explains that she’s always felt a higher calling and the timing just seems right to study at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, after months of planning and various procedures she needed to complete to make her dream a reality.
And in her trademark good will and generosity, Christine concludes her note to colleagues this way: “With all of your energy, talent and spirit I look forward to watching newspapers and SND grow into the future.”
That’s typical Christine, always thinking of others and seeing the best in the world. We’re proud to count her among our very best friends and cannot help but note the way she has helped us through many trying times. She’s one of the most giving people we’ve ever met.
If the past is any indication, Christine will make an excellent minister. We already know she’s a great evangelist, having seen her in action. Our best as you begin that next amazing adventure, Christine: Here’s to all you have done for the industry!
