Design crits square off

The good folks at Speak Up have begun to take issue with comments made by the venerable Rick Poynor in the new issue of Print about their design criticism, namely that it’s not weighty enough (The Blog condenses considerably). This brings up questions about unsupported assertions, means of justification, intended tone, argument lines, whether blogs can work as a legitimate vehicle for cultural criticism, and other assorted wrinkles that include (but are not limited to) Design Observer, Pentagram, Steven Heller, Armin Vit and the rest of the New York media circle.
